Oliver Meets A Dolphin
Updated: Jan 16
I was searching for hermit crabs along the shore of Ole River. I heard a muted splash and was surprised to see a dolphin within a few feet of me. The dolphin said
Surprised by a dolphin being so close, amazed to hear a dolphin talking, and not knowing the meaning of namaste, I managed to say
Who are you?
My name is Oliver.
You don’t look like me. What are you?
I am a boy.
Can you swim?
I can swim fast. Can you?
Yes. But I cannot jump as high as you unless my Mom gives me a boost. Why is there a boomerang on your back?
That is my fin. Without it I would turn like a pig roasting on a spit. By the way, my name is Click.
Click. That’s a great name for a dolphin.
What is that curly stuff on your head?
I had a little when I was a baby.
How old are you?
I’ll be 4 this month. We are going to celebrate by playing with Captain Awesome and his sleek and beautiful blue boat.
I’m having a birthday soon. I will be 4 too. And I am having a birthday party. You can come.
I don’t have walking sticks like you. So I will whistle happy birthday to you when I play with the blue boat.
That’s my Dad’s excursion boat. He takes people for boat rides. He likes it when you visit. See you on the waves.
Bye, Oliver. I hope we meet again.
